“Satanism could never have thrived in Japan without him.”
Satanist anthropologist John Skutlin once asked a friend what he thought of Taiki, the founding father of goth culture in Osaka and the city’s most prominent dealer of occult materials, horror media, and metal lifestyles; he said they described Taiki with just one word: “kami,” which means, roughly, “spirit god.” So as you can imagine, Taiki was a guy who went pretty hard, and he was creating and leading subculture in Japan for over 25 years. When he died, Satanist journalist La Carmina declared, “Satanism would never have flourished in Japan without him,” and while we can only imagine what incredibly metal realms his dark and lustrous spirit may be indulging in these days, we’re happy to have a little bit of his material memory here with us.
